Leadership You Can Trust

About Monica

Monica Wilson is running for her third term on the Antioch City Council. She is the first African American woman to serve on the council. She is a past Board Chair of Tri-Delta Transit and currently serves as the Northern California Vice Chair for the California Democratic Party Women’s Caucus. She is a graduate of the Emerge California Program class of 2011, a Democratic Women’s leadership program which trains women to run for office.

Monica was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in San Rafael, CA. After graduating from Terra Linda High School in 1986, she attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business/Merchandising. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City where she managed a women’s clothing store in the Upper Westside. Monica earned her MBA in 2005 from the University of Phoenix in Woodland Hills, CA.

Monica currently is Senior Program Manager for Love Never Fails, a non-profit that works with survivors of human trafficking.

She has served two terms on the Antioch City Council and looks forward to working with you on getting even more accomplished when re-elected to her third term.

Ballot Statement

Our city has made great strides since I was first elected to the Antioch City Council in 2012, including job growth, lower crime, and an increase in city resources, such as the passage of Measure W. But we still have more work to do, beginning with…

Protecting Our Most Vulnerable

Our city slogan, “Opportunity Lives Here,” must apply to everyone in our community. I’ll advocate for more resources that uplift survivors of human trafficking and those suffering from mental illness and experiencing homelessness. And I’ll press for reforms that place the responsibility of helping residents in distress—but not committing a crime—into the hands of trained experts, not police.

Engaging Our Youth

It’s time to reinvest in afterschool programs and activities so young people have safe places to go when not in school. This process starts with engaging young people in the civic process, listening to what they need and making sure their voices are heard. I will work hard to make sure our youth of all ages have the resources and opportunities they require to excel.

Attracting High-Wage Employers

I’m fighting to move beyond minimum wage retail jobs. We need to get serious about recruiting technology, pharmaceutical, engineering and manufacturing companies to Antioch that pay wages people can raise families on, and pursuing business-community partnerships and non-profit workforce development programs that provide job training for underserved members of our community.

I look forward to receiving your vote in November, so we can continue moving Antioch forward.

Monica's Accomplishments

In her second term on the Antioch City Council, Monica:

 Cracked Down on Human Trafficking

  • Led the ban on hourly-rate hotels/motels to prevent human trafficking
  • Spearheaded enforcement against illegal massage establishments where human trafficking was taking place
  • Helped form the Human Trafficking Task Force, to work with our county’s District Attorney’s office

Advanced Public Health and Safety and the Environment

  • Co-authored Measure W to address issues such as public safety, youth programming/gang prevention, homelessness and quality of life issues such as code enforcement and water quality.
  • Collaborating on the Waterfront Ad Hoc Committee for revitalizing of our downtown “Rivertown” area.

Going forward she will continue these efforts as well as fight for an ad hoc committee on police reform and reallocation of funds for community involvement in public safety programs.
